Our client, Mr. Bardai Iives in a house in Kishanganj, Bihar which was constructed about 20 years back. With changing times our client was interested in giving a modern look to the house. So when he approached us for doing the new building envelop design, we first had to evaluate the existing house layout and its condition. Since it is not a green field project, it was essential to keep the functionality of the house intact. Our choice of design with steel as the main frame structure was obvious as it would be easy to manufacture it in a factory which can then easily be shipped to site for fixing it with the existing concrete frame structure. The approach was to make use of steel as the structural support along with perforated steel sheets to allow for proper cross ventilation and views from the front verandah and balcony from ground and first floor respectively. The house also needed a front entrance canopy for parking the car, so the same steel lattice frame structure design was used.
