Working at SDM Architects
The office is located on Carter Road at Bandra West, Mumbai, a vibrant area which many young people gravitate to. We work 5 days a week - all Saturdays are off, unless there is an urgent submission.
We aim to give the maximum possible responsibility to each person. If you can run a project by yourself in the manner we expect it to be run, we will allow you to do so.
At the same time, we take every possible effort to teach you everything we know about design, work processes, and building construction. We ensure that you understand the reasons for every design decision.
We have a comprehensive library with classic books on architectural design, and on other subjects. From some of first maps of the world drawn up by Ptolemy, to the economic history of the Mughal period, to the future of artificial intelligence and robotics - you will find it in our library, and in our discussions!
We also have invested over Rs. 20 lakh in a 3D printing lab, and we encourage all our architects and designers to learn how to use this technology and use the machines freely to create models.
We like to hire free-thinking, intelligent people, with good skills in hand sketching and software.

How to make a good Architectural Portfolio
A few pointers on how to make an architectural portfolio that will impress any office
- Communicate clearly and simply. Each page has limited space, so do NOT include tons of text, just a few well-written descriptions.
- Do not crowd the page with dozens of drawings, each an inch square. Instead, have two or three drawings at most, or even less. What is important is that the drawings must be at a scale that can be read clearly. We see many portfolios like this, some with thirty or forty drawings, which mean that none of the drawings can actually be read.
- Architects value hand sketches. Put in as many as possible.
- We like to see YOUR thoughts and ideas. So even if you have a few years of experience, put in your sketches and concepts, including your academic work. Do not fill your portfolio with fancy polished renderings produced in your previous offices by teams of people working together.
- It is preferable to upload your portfolio to a cloud based platform such as issuu.com instead of clogging up mailboxes.
