The Bijawar Palace, a building of about 70,000 ft2 built in phases over several centuries, overlooks a picturesque lake in Bijawar, a small town about 90km to the East of Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh. Bijawar is a former 11-gun princely state that extended about 2,520 km2 and had 343 villages.
The Palace has not been used since 1977, and has since fallen into disrepair. Its owners wish to restore the building to its former splendor and convert it into a mid-luxury heritage hotel. The Palace essentially consists of five parts, each overlooking the lake. These are arranged in a cluster abutting the lake.
The effect of the whole ensemble is one of gorgeous plasterwork, domed terraces, unexpected courtyards, intriguing staircases, lovingly carved chajjas, and magical balconies overlooking the lake. A Feasibility Report was prepared that described how the Palace could be converted into a Luxury Hotel. (With Sewri Consultants Pvt. Ltd.)
